National Pig Day

Mary Lynne Rave and her Sister, Ellen Stanley, were concerned about the pig’s reputation. Pigs are very bright animals that can be trained to do many different things. The two sisters founded National Pig Day in 1972. Later Rave told a paper that the purpose of Pig Day is to "to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man's most intellectual and domesticated animals."
